Running Arrow Farm
is a major breeder of registered Texas Longhorn Cattle from quality bloodlines in the Texas Panhandle Region!

As a relatively new breeder, we have been breeding and raising Longhorn Cattle since the Spring of 2001.
We have two programs within our longhorn herd.
1. Our body program where we emphasize "full-bodied" cattle with our matching quality sires and dams to create quality offspring that provide us with offspring that can and do go into the freezer but they also provide a quality body base from which we utilize to add body to our second program.
2. Our Horn Program, in which we are looking for balanced animals that have known bloodlines for adding horn without loosing our balanced body base.
Our better animals are able to be used as part of both programs.
Additionally, we offer a palate of color options to suit other's breeding program for color genetics and pasture attractions.
We are on a continuing program of improving the quality of our Texas Longhorns through very selective breeding from quality longhorn lineages. We have several Sires and Dams that are "daughters of" and "sons of" impressive and notable Longhorns. We also use A.I. breeding as appropriate.

Our Five Year Record to date has provided 59% Heifers in our breedings! We only had ONE stillborn calf due to a breech presentation. This cow later failed to settle and she "grew wheels". Considering these statistics, our "loss rate" for calves was 2%.
We watch our weaning weights carefully and "consider a calf who gains less than one pound a day only suitable for the local sale barn".
We do have calves that routinely gain between 1 1/2 and 2 lbs per day at weaning.
For any of our solid colored potential commercial bulls, we require them to gain 2 lbs per day at weaning and this is done without creep feeding.
We do allow our "better horned calves" to be lighter weight as long as they don't fall below the one pound per day minimun, but they had better be producing horn and a balanced body to stay.
Calves are trained to cubes during the weaning process. Before weaning they and their dams are on full access to"horse quality bermuda hay only" and what little grass we have on our small acreage.
We do Not believe in playing "catch up" with our cattles condition. We require them to stay in decent condition all year round. By doing this we can concentrate on what our matings/pedigrees are doing and we don't have to factor in poor management as to why this or that happened. We refuse to raise "stunted" cattle.
Additionally, all of our bulls that we have sold as breeding stock have had very good semen tests and have serviced our customers' females very well.
We attribute our success rate to
-
Our Quality Sires and Dams
-
Our Horse Quality Hay
-
Our Quality Mineral Program
-
Our Quality Vaccination & De-Worming Program
