Chocolate Palomino Stallion

"Chance" has Matured into a Handsome Hunk at 12 years of age.

     Nov 2006 Photo in transit to Texas from Tennessee

Above is Chance late November 2006.

Below is the earliest picture known that we have of Chance, taken in the year 2000 when he was 6 years of age by his previous owner when he was first bought by them.  Showing the silver (sooty) effect in the base of  his mane and underside of his tail, dapples, and the darker chocolate legs (agouti).

     "Chance" a very Striking Stallion with a full "Silver Mane and Silver Tail" and Chocolate Stockings and Dapples who  has been officially DNA tested by the University of Kentucky Equine Lab as being a  "Palomino" carrying the Agouti Gene and has already produced Buckskins out of Black Mares.

Heterozygous for the Agouti Gene... bays and buckskins here

 Heterozygous for the Creme Gene  ~

"Chance's" official heterozygous genetic markers are per University of Kentucky Lab:

Cr/N     Creme Dilution Gene

A/a     Agouti Gene            e/e     Red Gene

Negative for the Silver Gene

Note:  Chance was being retested for the Silver Gene as his results for this test are atypical which means his is not a clear cut reading of his tests...  his results were too close to call either way without more sensitive testing. (I was kidding the DNA specialist the other day... told him he would have to invent a new test just for Chance. )

So now, Chance is DNA Sequenced for future Sooty Testing because of everything that has happened so far this year.

ALL OF THIS MAKING "CHANCE"

An Unusual Dark Palomino who is a very very good mimic of the "Silver Gene" Effect with his Dappling, Full Silver Mane/Silver Tail and Chocolate Leggings carrying the Agouti Gene.

 A "Sooty Palomino and a Silver Dapple can mimic each other" in what you see visually.

So the DNA results are very important to being able to puzzle out what he really is.

No, I am not a color expert,  I have spent many hours (computer/books/people) puzzling over Chance and his color effects, and will continue to learn more as time goes on, so please forgive my learning curve here on equine colors. Just when I think I have the basics nailed down, then comes along more info that confuses what I just learned of the basics.  ~~sandy.}

Update: 7-3-2007  Chance is a Palomino carrying the Agouti Gene. He has been DNA Sequenced for future testing of the Sooty Gene...

 Our Tech believes that the Sooty Gene has been under estimated in it's effects on the base coat colors. He is now wanting to find other horses that carry and pass on this "Sooty Effects" to their offspring like Chance has.

If you would like to help in this future research...

Please give me your name, address and pictures of your sooty horse along with any information you would care to share on your experiences with how the sooty gene has affected your horse and whether or not this has been passed down to their offspring...

This would be most appreciated and could also help clear up some puzzling results for some other horse owners as well as yourself.

(we would be needing a group of 25-30 horses for this testing group... would prefer that the horses be from any of Chance's bloodlines or if you would know of another group of horses that would all have a bloodline in common?)

---------

My personal apologies for any ongoing confusion on this Stallion's color... we have honestly tried to present the facts as we knew the testing to show at the time.  I do have test results in hand that showed the opposite results of what we are now getting.

 "Chance" still is the Quality Handsome Stallion with the old timey Plantation Bred Pedigree" that attacted me to him in the first place.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Proven Sire of beautiful "Naturally Gaited" Quality Offspring with great dispositions.
Son of: CHANCE'S GOLD DUST H."  This makes him a rare Grandson of: "JOHN A's CHANCE"  along with the famous Buckskin Mare "HENDRIXSON BONNIE" ( 2x)  in his pedigree on his 4 Generation Registration Paper.
Chance's Dam is a Daughter of: "SLF ACE'S SENSATION" (WGC) and his grandam is a daughter of: "SUN'S DELIGHT D." (WGC)       (WGC = World Grand Champion) And going back further to the WGC "Melody Maid" herself.
Chance has 19 old names  from 1904 thru 1949 on his registration pedigree, with 3 of these being F-4, F-10, and F-38, which makes him a "rare" find indeed of the old Plantation (aka Pleasure/Flat Shod) Bloodlines].
Chance carries a high head with a pretty high tail set and has a very smooth Natural Running Walk with a nice long reach with his backend, which he also passes on to his offspring along with refined heads and ears, nice necks, and above all they have intelligence and are eager to learn.
So far Chance has produced  for his PREVIOUS OWNER, these registered offspring :  Buckskins (2), Palomino (8) and a Cremello (1). As well as Chestnuts (6), Sorrels (2), Roans (1),  Bay (1),  Brown (1) and  Black ( 0 ).
[NOTE: Chance has not produced a "Solid Black" baby so far. He has produced bays, and buckskins, and a brown, but not any "known" blacks at this time...registered or unregistered]  I am not sure what is going on, but something special is...
He and his offspring are the "Mercedes" among horses. Great correction for those Pacey Mares. He is a great addition to our small quality herd and would/will go great on our Cajun's Bay fillies for possible Buckskins, Palominos etc.  I can hardly wait.....
"Chance" is not only a "Pretty Face" but he has a "Quality Pedigree" and "Natural Talent" to back him up as a "Quality Sire" of your next foal.
   NOTICE: TWHBEA is now requiring all breeding stock and new foals to be DNA Tested as of January 1st 2007.
We have mailed into the TWHBEA for the "Converstion Kit" on all our walkers. Be sure that you have your mare DNA tested before December 31, 2007 as the "Converstion Kits" will go up in cost from the now current $25.00
Without your breeding stallions and mares having been DNA typed  for parentage you will not be able to register your new 2007 and beyond foal without it!
---------------
Also, because Chance has been DNA color verified thru the UKY (this lab is required thru TWHBEA own rules).
Chance's registration paperwork has been returned to the TWHBEA association to have his registration color changed from Chestnut Roan to properly reflect the updated DNA test results of Palomino.
