OUR MAIN COW HERD OF GIRLS 7 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER

Our girls are the heart of our herd, they are half of the genetics of their calf. As such we have carefully chosen each cow for several different reasons to work with both known sucessful crossings/blendings and also as an occasional test to further our own knowledge of what is possible within our own herd.

We are hanging on to most of our older girls until we have better knowledge of what each cow brings  to their individual matings and are then better able to bring up their replacements. For for the time being. It will be easier for us to let go of most of their calves than their dams at this time.  We will be trying to hang on to several of the young girls for replacements from time to time.

Most of the young calves will be for sale.  We are limited on pasture space, so speak up on our young calves as soon as possible. (A 25% deposit will hold them until weaning time at 6.5 months of age.)

We will only allow our top end bull calves to be sold as breeding stock, and any others will be steered for pasture ornaments or held over to go into the TxLonghornCoop as a valuable grass fed beef resource when they reach proper weights.

SENATOR'S SYMBOL

(Senator X Superior Symbol)

calved:  3-26-1992

hip height:  50"  weight (digital scale):  1000#

tip to tip:  58"  base: 11"  total:  67.75"  (May '05)

An own daughter of the famous bull "SENATOR" out of a dam by another famous bull "SUPERIOR". Symbol's 2nd dam is the very famous cow "RANGER'S MEASLES" herself.

Symbol is now over 15 years of age, and we have owned her since the fall of 2002. She is a hard working cornerstone cow that produces calves that always sell quickly for us.  I do know of her having one set of twins before we purchased her. We also know of one of her heifers ending up at the Fort Worth Longhorn Showcase several years ago.

Symbol puts a nice body on her calves. She is currently bred to Windwalker's Dode for the second year in a row. Due in early '08. She will be put with Rumble for her rebreeding.  She has weaned 2 bulls and 3 heifers for us here at RAF since we have owned her.

Ozark Mist is an own daughter of "Ozark Mountain Queen" herself. OMQ was among the earliest handful of Longhorn Cows that had over 70" of tip to tip in their hayday.  This quality female line really takes off well with the Roundup Genetics. Ozark is a great blend of Butler (Bold Ruler) , Phillips (Texas Ranger JP) , and WR (Royal Mounty).  Ozark is the dam of our Jr. Herd Sire, Spock.  We are saving back her heifers to add as breeding stock for our herd because of the maternal bodies that this line is known for.

Ozark Mist is bred a 2nd time to Phantom. We have a valuable blue roan heifer from her earlier mating with Phantom that we are already retaining for our breeding stock .

Her 2nd dam is a daughter of "Widespread 11/9".

JB Wynonna is confirmed 6 months safe in calf to the great bull "ROUNDUP" himself.  Making for March/April '08 calf.  Next she will be put into Rumble's pasture. We know what kind of quality calves this female has and are excited about what she will do for our program

Sleek is currently bred to Windwalker's Dode for this coming calf. Sleek will be going into Rumble's pasture in February and is sure to really knock us a home run with that mating.

Worshipper is a small built cow with big genetics. She is also our smartest girl.  She has really calmed down since coming here, but still bears watching when she has a newborn calf.  She has really settled into my routine of simple voice commands and simple hand signals.  Worshipper's '05 heifer by Phantom is in Tennessee. We have retained her '06 heifer by Spock to help bring in the black for our Roundup bloodlines.  She has a full bodied knock out '07 heifer by Roundup's Texan which is available for sale.  Worshipper is bred to Phantom for another lateral horn style mating.
